Studio McGee’s designs never fail to impress me—all of the rooms that Syd and Shea McGee share on the internet are just so warm, comforting, and, yes, ultra-stylish! Whether you’ve shopped their website, picked up gems from the brand’s line at Target , or simply have way too many Studio McGee Instagram posts saved on your phone for inspo, you probably feel the same way.

In my opinion, Studio McGee does a particularly excellent job putting together bedrooms that are functional yet super cozy. Below are eight design tips that I’ve picked up from swooning over Syd and Shea’s outstanding sleep spaces.

Studio McGee proves that bedding is about more than just the basics. Don’t be shy about dressing up your bed a bit; feel free to pile on the sleeping pillows, throw pillows, blankets, and shams. And if you have room for an end-of-bed bench like the one seen here, even better—you can toss extra pillows there before you crawl under the covers at night!

The nightstand isn’t a place to display your entire nail polish collection or latest stack of magazines. Instead, corral those types of items into a chic storage basket, which can live on your bedside table’s bottom shelf, and keep the main surface nice and minimal. A cute trinket box, a lamp, and maybe a plant or alarm clock are all you really need.

Sometimes, you just want someplace cozy to read a book or take a call with a friend that isn’t your bed (we’ve all laid down for *just a second* only to accidentally doze off for three hours, after all!). A chic accent chair topped off with a sheepskin throw or woven blanket is the perfect place to chill.

The more lighting options, the merrier—so if you’re loving the look of sconces but don’t want to say goodbye to your bedside lamps quite yet, go ahead and double up.

Studio McGee’s spaces always feature thoughtful green touches that bring so much life and texture to a room. Whether you’re a proud plant parent or would feel more comfortable with something faux, you can’t go wrong with a green friend or two in the bedroom.

Not so in love with the carpeting in your bedroom? Simply place an area rug over it to better reflect your aesthetic and personality—this is an especially helpful hack for renters. This black-and-white area rug steals the show!

Have a cute sofa or settee that isn’t quite large enough for the living room? Place it at the end of your bed to bring hotel-like vibes into your very own home. As a bonus, it makes for a great spot to sit and watch TV at with a drink or snack in hand (no need to worry about spilling all over your sheets!).

No need to grab a matching pair of nightstands when you can mix things up a bit and experiment with two different styles. Try one round table and one that’s rectangler, or even place a small writing desk on one side of your bed if you’re looking to squeeze in a petite work-from-home spot.
